It’s finally here — Varsity 2025, and this year, the showdown between the University of Lincoln and the University of Hull is happening right here on our home turf. Campus is buzzing, banners are flying, and let’s be honest… we’re all thinking the same thing:
Lincoln is winning today. Again.
Varsity is the biggest sporting rivalry of the year for University of Lincoln students. It’s more than just a set of matches — it’s a full-on university face-off that pits us against Hull across everything from football and netball to dodgeball, rowing, cheer, and even eSports.
We’ve dominated Varsity since 2017, and today we’re going for our ninth consecutive win. The trophy hasn’t left our hands in nearly a decade — and based on today’s fixtures and team energy, it’s not going anywhere.
Let’s talk about the real heart-racers on today’s Varsity schedule. These aren’t just your average university matches — these are where rivalries peak, crowds erupt, and bragging rights are earned.
Played on home soil at Riseholme and the Sports Centre, Lincoln’s football squads are looking sharp this season. The men’s team is hungry after a narrow win last year, while the women’s side has had a phenomenal run in BUCS fixtures. We’re calling it: 2–0 to Lincoln, both matches.
This one’s always tense — last year’s match was decided by just two points. But this season Lincoln’s 1st team has depth, pace, and some seriously smart playmakers. Hull’s bringing size… but Lincoln’s got strategy. Expect fireworks — and expect a win.
Lincoln’s eSports team might not get the same crowd as Football, but they’ve quietly built a fortress in the digital world. With Varsity now including games like Valorant and Rocket League, we think Lincoln’s going to rack up some early wins here before Hull even warms up.
Okay — not technically about points, but this is one of the loudest and proudest parts of Varsity. Lincoln’s cheerleaders have turned every Engine Shed halftime show into a full-blown event this year. Expect energy, skill, and a standing ovation.
We’re not just being biased (well, maybe a bit). There are actual reasons why University of Lincoln will win Varsity 2025:
Home advantage: Being on campus, surrounded by thousands of Lincoln supporters, makes a huge difference — not just in morale, but momentum.
The streak: 8 years unbeaten. That confidence feeds into the team psychology. Hull’s walking into a lion’s den.
Squad depth: Lincoln’s not just good at the headline sports — we’ve got solid teams in fencing, volleyball, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and dodgeball. This year’s event covers over 25 sports and 80+ fixtures — and we’ve built squads to win across the board.
It’s been building all week — but today, Lincoln has fully transformed. There’s yellow and blue face paint, boom boxes blaring team chants, pop-up merch stalls selling limited-edition Varsity 2025 tees, and the kind of crowd noise you normally hear at professional games.
Even if you’re not playing today, you’re part of it. That’s the point of Varsity.
If tradition stands, the trophy presentation will happen after the final fixture late this afternoon — likely around 5:30 pm at the Sports Centre. After that? Everyone’s heading to the Engine Shed for the Varsity Afterparty (free with your ticket, by the way), where the only thing louder than the music will be Lincoln fans celebrating nine years undefeated.
Hull’s bringing energy, but Lincoln’s bringing history, home support, and a fire that’s been building since last year’s final whistle.
So whether you’re competing, cheering, or just here for the afterparty — soak it all in. This is your uni pride, your chance to be part of something huge. And when the final scores are in?
We’ll be chanting the same thing we always do:
WE. ARE. LINCOLN. 💙💛
